Friday 14th May 2010.

Dear Parents & Carers,

 General Meeting

Thank you to those parents who attended and supported the Pre-School. I am thrilled to announce that Jo Johnson, ( Pip & Rosie’s Mum) has agreed to become a member of the Committee, thankyou!

 Willow Dome

Thanks to Tim Johnson’s efforts, ( Pip & Rosie’s Dad ) we now have a beautiful willow dome in our garden for the children to play in. They all have great fun with it, and hopefully, weather permitting, it will last for quite some time. Thanks again Tim, for putting your artistic flair into such a wonderful creation, for our children’s enjoyment.

 Barbecue

As last year’s was such a success, we are planning to hold another on Friday 18th June and would appreciate any offers of help. More information to follow soon.

 Sports Day

We are planning to hold Sports Day on Friday 2nd July. It will start at approximately 9.30am on the school field. If we are unlucky with the weather, then we will aim to hold it the following week on Friday 9th July. If your child is not in session, then please just arrive at the field with your child at 9.30am, so they can participate. We will be selling cold drinks and cakes to add to your enjoyment! I will be press-ganging individuals nearer the time, to bake for us. It goes without saying, that I will make my ‘world famous’ carrot cake for your delectation!!!

Trip to Amazon World

This will take place on Tuesday 13th July. We will be collected by an IOW Council school bus at Pre-School at 10am and return at 1.30pm to arrive back at Pre-School for about 2pm. Your child will need to take a disposable packed lunch (food & drink in a named carrier bag, which can be thrown away afterwards) which will be kept in cool boxes on the day.

There will need to be high ratios of adults to children, otherwise the trip will not be able to take place. Please give your name to me as soon as possible, if you can help.

All staff are first aiders and are aware of emergency procedures. Emma & I will have responsibility for the trip, so if you have any concerns, please feel free to have a chat with either of us.

If you need to contact us whilst on the trip, we can be reached on 07734 809211.

If your child does not normally attend Pre-School  on a Tuesday, they will need to be booked in for the usual fee.

All staff will be attending this trip, so Pre-School will be closed for the day. If you do not wish your child to go to Amazon World, I will adjust your fees accordingly.

A risk assessment will be carried out prior to the visit.

Please sign and return the consent slip at the end of this letter, along with monies as soon as possible.

Backdrop to Learning

The children are learning all about ‘jungles’ at the moment. So if your child has anything of interest at home connected to this theme, then please let them bring it in to show and tell their friends.

Amy’s Leaving

Amy will be leaving us on Tuesday 25th May. She has secured an exciting position of Play Worker at the new Spurgeons Children’s Centre in Newport.    P.T.O.

We would  like to thank her for her dedication whilst at Springhill, and wish her well in her new position.

 Half Term

We finish on Friday 28th May and return on Monday 7th June. Even though Holy Cross is having a Development Day on this date, we will be open as usual.

That’s all for now folks!

Lou & The Girls.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

I give permission for my child……………………………………………………….to go to Amazon World on Tuesday 13th July 2010.

 I enclose £6.00 per child.

School News – April 2010

Welcome back to you all, we hope you all had a great Easter Break.

Sun Cream

Each summer we usually ask that you provide a bottle of sun cream for your child to keep at Pre-School. This summer to save time looking for each child’s individual sun cream and to save you buying an extra bottle of cream, we are asking all parents to make a contribution of £1.50 so we can purchase some big bottles of children’s sun cream that can be used on all the children.  Of course if you have already purchased a bottle of cream to be kept at

Pre-School or would prefer to supply your own cream, then we will happily use that.

Sun hats

Please can your child bring a named sun hat to school as we spend the majority of our time in the garden when it is sunny.

Spare Clothes

If you have any clothes at home that your child has outgrown and no longer need we would be very grateful if you could supply us with them. We especially need spare girls clothes and socks and t shirts.

Water Bottles

A few children have now bought water bottles to keep at Pre-School.

The bottles are kept in the Playroom with the child’s photo around the neck, so the children can identify their drink and help themselves throughout the day. If I could ask all of you to provide a water bottle it would be much appreciated. Although we do have cups they get knocked over and spilt easily. All water bottles are emptied and replaced with fresh water over the day.

Students

We would like to welcome our 3 students that are starting placements with us. All students are supervised at all times and will be wearing their placement uniform so you know who they are. Steffie Wolfe is a Health and Social Care student in her 3rd year, Elysha Adams is a Level 1 student and we are pleased that Emily Paterson a previous student has chosen to return to us to complete her NVQ3. All students are studying at the Isle Of Wight College.

Reception Class Visits

I have met with Mrs Burden and arranged some extra visits to School for the children starting school in September. These are in addition to the visits arranged by the school, which you will be notified about at a later date. The visits I have arranged will be for one hour and the children will be accompanied by Pre-School staff. This will enable the children to become familiar with the new setting whilst having the reassurance and support of their key person. I have also arranged for Mrs Burden to come into the

Pre-School to spend time with the children, to play and read stories with them. Hopefully by the time the official visits start the children will already feel happy and confident in Reception Class.

Events

We are starting to plan our annual summer trip for the children. Last year we went to Sandown Zoo, which the children loved, this year we are possibly looking to go to Amazon World as the majority of it is under cover in case of rain.

We are also planning for Sports Day, our leavers ceremony and cake sales.

Last year we held a barbecue after Pre-School which was a huge success; we are hoping to arrange a similar get together for June. If you have any suggestions or would like get involved in anyway please have a chat with Lou or Emma.

Parent Partnership

Tim Johnson (Rosie and Pip’s dad) has very kindly offered to come to the Pre-School and make a willow structure for the garden, for the children to play in. We will be arranging a date and hopefully getting the County Press in to take photos.

We would also like to say a Big Thank You to Jo Johnson (Rosie and Pip’s mum) who kindly gave up a morning to come in and make Easter Decorations with the children. The children thoroughly enjoyed having a new person to play with and Rosie and Pip loved being able to share their Pre-School experience with their mum. Remember you are always welcome to come and join in with us.

New Additions

We would like to say Congratulations to Phoebe and Bella on becoming big sisters during the Easter Holidays. Phoebe has a new baby sister and Bella a brother. This is a very important role that the girls have taken on and they have been presented with a certificate and rosette each in recognition.

New Children

We would like to give a warm welcome to our new children Rosie, Kaitlin, Amelia, Jeremy and their families.

Backdrop To Learning

We are currently exploring spring with the children and in May our backdrop to learning will be The Jungle. If you have any activity ideas or would like to come in and do an activity with a group of children
