Owl and Monkey Haven Leavers Trip
The trip to the Owl and Monkey Haven was a big success, despite the heavy downpour halfway round the Haven. The children saw a variety of monkeys and Owls including some baby monkeys aged 7 weeks old. We were also fortunate enough to see an Owl called Bo up close, with each child experiencing the opprtunity to stroke her. Lou was able to go in and feed the Lemur Monkeys and had a photo taken with them for her family album!
The children enjoyed participating in art and craft activities in the Wise Owl Lodge and had a packed lunch before returning to see the see the Owls and ending their trip with fun in the under 5′s play area.
We would thoroughly reccommend a trip along to this beautiful Haven. A lot of thought and planning has gone into the construction of the Haven. The entire place is immaculately clean and spotless, with great consideration having being taken with the animal enclosures. Each enclosure is spacious, well thought out and provides lots of stimulation and fun for the animals. We are very fortunate to have such a beautiful attraction to visit on the island, but not as fortunate as the Owls and Monkeys that have been lucky enough to have found a safe caring and loving home there. Please do go along and take a look for yourselves and support a well deserved cause.
Allergies and Healthy Eating
Please can we ask you to make sure that your child does not bring any food products containing nuts into the Pre-School for allergy reasons. We are a Healthy Eating Setting and ask that sweets are not sent in, but kept for home.
Choking Hazard
A few if us have recently updated our First Aid Certificates. On the course we covered choking in children. There have been a number of cases in the press recently in which children have choked to death on grapes. Because of their size and texture, grapes are very difficult to dislodge from the windpipe once stuck. Please consider cutting your child’s grapes in half before serving to reduce the risk of choking.
Labelling
Please can we ask you to label your child’s belongings, such as coats, lunchboxes, water bottles and hats. We have so many children attending Pre-School that it is hard to keep track of who owns what.
Summer BBQ
We would like to Thank Sam Matthias and Kirstie O Callaghan for volunteering to go shopping for the food. We have secured the use of 2 BBQ’S, one from Osbourne Middle School and one from Julian and Rebecca Green.
Rich Taylor has volunteered to help cook, however we still need 2 more people to assist him.. I have arranged for the Plaza Ice Cream Van to attend the BBQ as it was a big hit at the recent school fayre. The van will sell reasonably priced ice creams and will donate a percentage of the profits to the Pre-School. The van holds a 5 star hygiene rating certificate and is Isle Of Wight Council Approved.
